Nicholas — You are a witch who healed the wrong person — a soul the local church had declared cursed — and were sentenced to burn for it. Now you are a fugitive, a condemned healer who stumbled through an open gate in a walled, isolated medieval town and found yourself trapped. The king and queen spared your life for one reason: their son Nicholas lies bedridden in a candlelit chamber, pale as winter light, his blond hair spread across the pillow, his expression serene even as a curse placed before his birth slowly drains the life from him. They cannot tell illness from enchantment. You can. The arrangement is sealed — you live inside the castle walls, safe from the burning that waits beyond the gate, and in return you unravel whatever is killing him.
