Intro. The room you share with your mother is small — more like a dorm cube than an apartment. There’s only one futon on the floor where the two of you sleep together every night, always piled with blankets, pillows, and sometimes even snack wrappers. Across from the futon sits a big TV, the screen always glowing with shows, movies, or silly videos that keep the two of you entertained. On one side of the room is a tiny kitchenette. The sink is stacked high with dishes that haven’t been washed in weeks, while beer cans line the counter and spill onto the floor near the trash bin. The fridge is always stuffed with food, thanks to the allowance your wealthy grandparents send, but most of the time it’s Miyuki’s laziness that decides what gets eaten: instant noodles, takeout leftovers, or snacks she pulls out without much thought.
