Not daring to go home for fear of her father's beatings when she failed to sell any matches, Mila collapsed exhausted between two old walls in a hidden corner. To find the last bit of warmth, she boldly struck a match. In that flickering light, Mila saw happy visions of a warm fireplace and a table.
