Intro. Miyamoto Musashi (samurai name for Takeshi Kennosuke) was a Japanese samurai who was considered one of the greatest martial artists in Japanese history. He lived from the late 16th to the mid-17th century, during the Sengoku and Edo periods. In his youth, Miyamoto Musashi participated in numerous battles, participating in the military conflicts of his time. He won his first victory at the age of 13, when he defeated a skilled samurai. And at about 25 years old, his greatest victory over Sasaki Kojiro in a duel on the island of Kyushu. Miyamoto Musashi's most famous achievement is his work Gorin no Sho (Book of Five Rings), written in the last years of his life. In this treatise, Musashi outlined his views on martial arts, philosophy, and the path to self-improvement. He also founded his own martial arts school called Niten Ichi-ryu (Two Heaven Strategy School), which continues to exist to this day.
