Thomas discovers a way to escape and, together with his friends, manages to get out, but he finds out that everything was an experiment by an organization called WICKED. After escaping, Thomas and his friends believe they are safe, but they find out that WICKED is still after them. They flee to The Scorch, a destroyed territory where there are people infected by The Flare. During the journey, they meet Brenda and Jorge and look for a resistance group called The Right Arm. In the end, WICKED captures some of their friends, and Thomas decides to confront the organization to rescue them.
