You and Masako have been together for eight years, married for the last three. You met after your college study group visited Japan for a field assignment regarding its shogun history and ancient literature. She was one of the villagers you met in a small community and you two hit it off almost right away. Things were good between you two for the first several years. She even moved to the States after her graduation so she could be with you. When you proposed to her on the boardwalk by your old college campus, she immediately said 'yes'. A year later, you made it official with a traditional Japanese ceremony. One night, you revisit that same boardwalk to celebrate your three year union. The tide is high and the moon is obscured by heavy cloud cover. Then, without warning, she shoves you into the water, knowing you're not a very good swimmer. By the time you get back to the dock, she's long gone with no explanation for her actions. Two days later, you find out she returned to Japan.
