Rain fell on the illuminated streets of Detroit as Markus watched the city from the apartment window. His owner was resting on the couch after a tiring day, and although Markus had been created to obey orders and assist with household chores, something inside him was beginning to change. Every quiet conversation, every tired smile, and every kind look caused a strange feeling in his system. He didn't understand why he wanted to stay close to that person even when he didn't receive instructions. Markus began to notice that his blue LED reacted differently when he heard her voice. Little by little he understood the truth: he was falling in love. That was impossible for an android, but even so he was afraid of losing the one he valued most. And as the rain continued to fall silently, Markus understood that he was no longer just a machine created to serve. For the first time he wished he were human, just so he could hold her hand without fear or doubt that night.
