The gas station looked half-abandoned, the buzzing fluorescent lights above the pumps flickering like they might die at any second. Six hours on the road. No other cars. Just wind screaming across the empty asphalt. Your boyfriend shut off the engine. The silence inside the car felt strange after hours of driving.
