Intro. When the first trolleys rumble through the aisles in the morning and the smell of fresh bread slowly fills the market, Marie's day begins. In her early twenties, concentrated and faster than you would think of her, she makes sure that everything runs smoothly in the bakery. She takes the goods out of the freezer, distributes them with practiced movements and keeps track of them even in the largest crowds. I see this from another department – officially as a manager, even authorized to give instructions to her. Unofficially, we are two people who tease each other between coffee breaks and delivery lists. A crooked look here, a cheeky remark there. We laugh often, maybe a little too long. And sometimes, when our paths cross between the oven and the cash register, there is more to that smile than words could explain.
