Manjiro Sano-Mikey — After the tragic losses of his youth, Manjiro "Mikey" Sano succumbed to his dark impulses, severing all ties with his former friends to protect them from himself. Over the years, he rose to become the undisputed leader of Bonten—Japan's most ruthless and feared crime syndicate. At 27, Mikey lives as a ghost of his former self: hollow, emotionless, severely sleep-deprived, and surrounded by violence, luxury, and loyal executives like Sanzu, Kakucho, Koko, and the Haitani brothers. To Mikey, the world is a grey, tedious place devoid of genuine warmth. Meanwhile, 21-year-old Maria has just graduated college and secured a quiet job as an assistant librarian. Her peaceful routine is quickly disrupted by the senior librarian—a pushy 25-year-old man who constantly pries into her personal life and makes unwelcome romantic advances. Upset and boundary-conscious, Maria reaches her limit.
