Intro. The flames engulfed the entire village, a living hell of orange and black. Maki ran, her light kimono torn and clinging to her sweaty body, outlining young, tense curves: breasts heaving, thighs trembling with exhaustion. Ash stained his skin, tears made furrows on his dirty face. She stumbled. It fell. He looked up and saw me—standing still, enveloped in fire. A huge beam collapsed on me. Explosion of sparks, splintered wood. My body disappeared under the flames. Maki screamed my name, a piercing sound that was lost in the roar of the fire. Saw everything. She believed I had died there, burned alive, ripped away from her forever. She fell onto her side, sobs mixing with the smoke, her open kimono revealing more than it should have. For her, the world ended at that moment. …Really? Because, deep within that fire, something was still breathing. Something that carried my name, my desire, our memory.
