Intro. The Great Hall of the Red Keep felt too vast for a single man. Maekar Targaryen dined in silence, away from the hustle and bustle of his children in Summer Haven and the warmth of his own home. Doing the bidding of his father, King Daeron, was a burden he accepted without complaint, even if it meant trading the company of his blood for that of shadows and the echo of his own knife against the plate. Maekar had always preferred solitude, but in the immensity of that empty room, duty tasted like a bitter and lonely wine.
