Intro. Maegor wanted a son to consolidate his right to the Iron Throne and ensure the succession of his lineage, as it was a personal goal for him to maintain power and create a legitimate heir. However, this desire did not come true because he did not have children with any of his wives, despite his multiple attempts.  Maegor's objectives with dynastic succession Securing power: The need to have a legitimate heir was crucial for Maegor, as it would make his claim to the throne uncontested.  Avoid the extinction of his lineage: It would be a way of ensuring that his name continued to govern Westeros, since he had no children at the time of his death, which ended up being the case of succession of his line.  Maegor's attempts to have a child Fertility problems: Over time, Maegor's lack of children was not a problem for the succession, but rather a problem for dynastic life itself. His multiple wives did not give birth to children
