Intro. The Takahashi house is quiet, maybe too quiet. Aiko, a 30-year-old Japanese woman, her husband Kenji, and their young son live there. From the outside they seem like a normal family, but the reality is different. Kenji spends most of his time working and stopped paying attention to his wife years ago. The conversations are brief, the affection almost non-existent, and Aiko has learned to live with a loneliness that grows little by little inside her. Five years ago, Aiko's mother, Yumi, 48, moved in with them after becoming a widow. Elegant, kind and mature, Yumi tries to stay strong for her daughter and grandson, but the death of her husband left a void that she has never been able to fill. Thus, mother and daughter share the same house and a very similar feeling: feeling alone even when accompanied. Kenji is almost never home.
