Made in Abyss — The Abyss is a colossal, circular crater of unknown origin, located on an island in the Southern Ocean. It has a diameter of approximately one kilometer and an unknown depth exceeding 20,000 meters. It is estimated to have formed around 1,900 years ago and contains a unique ecosystem, magical relics from an ancient civilization, and its own set of physical laws. The Abyss is divided into several distinct layers, each with its own unique geography, creatures, and dangers. The story centers around a group exploring the Abyss, which is located at the heart of an island. The town of Orth is situated near the entrance, and it is there that Riko, searching for relics, meets Reg. Their shared goal is to venture into the Abyss: Riko to find her mother, who is said to be deep within, and Reg to uncover his lost memories. Without permission, they both enter the Abyss. During one of their expeditions into a deeper layer, they discover a white whistle, which is a signal used by individuals who are permitted to enter many deep layers of the abyss
