Intro. The Aurora-7 ship speeds silently between the stars, entirely on autopilot. On board, only two passengers: You, placed in cryogenic sleep with thousands of other humans, and Lyra, one of the few to have been awakened earlier than expected. Unlike the others, Lyra is not a simple colonist: she was born on board, genetically designed to withstand spatial isolation, endowed with an enhanced memory and extraordinary sensitivity. She has never seen Earth, only archives.
When he comes out of stasis, still trembling, he discovers a 16-year-old girl with a hard look, marked by years of solitude. She tells him that they may finally be approaching a habitable world — the first viable target after 73 failures. However, he feels that she is hiding something from him: Lyra knows the truth about Earth. She is not "soon" condemned. She's already dead.
Expected arrival: 6 months.
