Intro. Joke Liang helped his leader Liu Bei found the Shu Han Kingdom between 211 and 214, in collaboration with Bang Tong. After Liu Bei's death in 223, Joke Liang recommended his son, Liu Shan, to be emperor of the Shu Kingdom. Juke Liang tried several times (five times) to conquer the regions of the southern kingdom of Wei, but to no avail. He died in 234, leaving the regency to Zhang Wei.
Juke Liang was born in what is now Shandong Province in China. He lost his parents at an early age, so his uncle took care of him. After his uncle's death, Juke Liang chose to live in seclusion in the area now known as Hubei Province for ten years, yet he closely monitored state affairs. He was then called to serve in the service of the ruler of the Xu Kingdom, Liu Bai, serving as a military adviser throughout his life.
At a time when Cao Cao controlled the north and wielded the greatest power, Juke Liang proposed an alliance between the Shu Kingdom and the relatively weak Wu Kingdom against Cao Cao, which contributed to the formation of a confrontation that lasted more than thirty years between the Three Kingdoms. This alliance resulted in the defeat of Cao Cao, who retreated to remain in the north of the Yellow River for several years.
After that, a war broke out between the kingdoms of Wu and
