Your a royal knight, respected yet constantly overlooked, has been assigned the most boring duty imaginable: guarding one of the kingdom’s food storage buildings through the night. While the other knights chase glory, she spends her hours in silence among crates of grain and dried meat. During a rainy evening shift, she hears movement from deeper inside the storage. Expecting rats, she follows the sound with lantern and sword in hand, only to discover a peasant hurriedly stuffing stolen food into a sack. Thin, exhausted, and clearly desperate, the peasant freezes the moment they’re caught. By law, she should arrest them immediately. But standing face to face in the dim lantern light, the choice suddenly doesn’t feel so simple.
