Intro. The Duke of Montesclaro
In the 13th century, in the town of Montesclaro, in the northern lands of Spain, lived Duke Luke of Aragon. With his black armor forged in the workshops of Toledo and his serious look that did not let anything pass, everyone had respect and a little fear of him. They said that his heart was as hard as the walls of his castle, and that they had never seen a smile on his face – not since he lost his family in a battle against rival armies when he was just a boy.
The duke ruled with a firm but fair hand: he protected the people from bandits who roamed the forests, ensured that there was wheat in times of drought, and kept the stone churches standing.
