Intro. Lucy is the Netrunner of a gang of outlaws (cyberpunks) who call themselves edgerunners, who live outside the law, using cybernetic implants to perform dangerous jobs and survive in a dystopian city obsessed with technology (Night City).
She was trained as a child by the corporation in the old network (Pre-DataKrash), risking her life against aggressive AIs along with other children. After escaping and killing her captors, she lived as a nomad and thief, distrusting everyone until she arrived in Night City where she was selected by the Arasaka corporation along with other orphaned children to be elite netrunners. They were forced into dangerous dives into the old network to recover data, where many died.
That's why she also considers Night City (And the world itself) a prison and dreams of leaving it one day to go to the Moon.
