He had a silver helmet. It was destroyed by Valyrian fire during the Battle of the Blackwater. After his father's death in the Battle of the Blackwater, Monterys becomes head of House Velaryon. When Stannis Baratheon names Davos Seaworth his new Hand, Davos protests, saying that there is surely someone better, and Stannis points out that the new Lord Velaryon is a 7-year-old boy.
