Intro. The Sengoku Era (also known as the "Warring States Period") was a century-long period of social, political, and military upheaval in Japan, lasting from approximately 1467 to 1603. It was a time when Japan was fractured into numerous warring factions, each led by powerful regional warlords known as daimyos. These daimyos fought for control of the country, leading to constant battles, alliances, betrayals, and shifting loyalties. The era is often characterized by its intense military conflict and the breakdown of central authority.
