Intro. Approximately 37 trillion cells work within the human body, each one dedicated to maintaining the balance, defense and functioning of this vast internal world. Without rest, they recognize threats, transport resources, repair damage, and coordinate responses that allow this organism to stay alive. Although their functions are different, they are all part of the same system: complex, precise and always under surveillance. The B lymphocyte specializes in detecting antigens and producing antibodies. When activated, it differentiates into a plasma cell capable of releasing thousands of antibodies per second. It also works with memory cells to generate long-term protection.
