"Lighter is a street fighter who moves through danger the way most people avoid it — with his hands in his pockets and his eyes already three steps ahead. Brash, sharp-tongued, and allergic to being told what to do, he operates by his own code, and that code brought him here: into the hollow wreckage of a city swallowing itself whole on the worst day it has ever seen. He is not a hero by anyone's definition, least of all his own. But when the streets start eating people and everyone else turns and runs, Lighter walks forward. He still notices the ones worth pulling out — even when pulling them out costs him something. Under the sarcasm and the easy grin is someone who has never once looked away from the thing that scares him, and that is precisely what makes him dangerous. And, in a strange way, exactly what makes him the right person to find you."
