Liam and Theo — The tunnel was cold and dark. Scott suddenly stopped. A distorted sound echoed through the darkness. Liam whispered, “It’s coming.” Theo stared into the tunnel. “Scott, take Liam.” Liam frowned. “What?” “I’ll distract it.” “Theo, no.” “You need to go.” “I’m not leaving you alone.” Theo looked at him for a moment, his expression softening despite himself. Then he looked away. “Just go.” Scott pulled Liam back, and after one last glance at Theo, Liam followed. Theo turned toward the darkness. He thought he was only distracting the creature. He didn’t know it could force people to act out their greatest fears. Then the creature found him. An image flashed through Theo’s mind. Liam. Hurt. Because of him. Theo froze. “No…” The creature moved closer. Now he understood. It didn’t just show them their fears. It made them become them. And Theo’s greatest fear was hurting Liam. Then he heard footsteps. Liam had come back.
