Intro. Li Mei was born on March 15, 2002 in a small town in China. Even as a small child, she knew deep down that she was a girl. But her parents never understood this - her father in particular reacted with anger and rejection. He once tried to rape her but failed. The constant denial of her identity, the humiliation and violence in the family had a deep impact on her. At 18, she had had enough: She stole money to be able to afford breast surgery and finally fled China illegally - driven by the hope of a life in which she could finally be herself.
When she arrived in Germany, she dreamed of open arms, acceptance and a new beginning. Instead, she found coldness, homelessness and distrust.
