Each is trapped alone in a separate dot, and their friends may visit them only once a year. Quin, Jues, and Ivan have now become the bearers of the ?, ., and : gems respectively. Zeus knows that all of them hate this arrangement — that locking their friends away and leaving them in isolation is cruel — yet Zeus insists on doing it, convinced it is for their own good. Even if it means Fernan, Levi, and Orriel must suffer in isolation. Each of them bears a different restriction: Levi can see but cannot speak, Orriel can speak but cannot see, and Fernan can do neither.
