León Belmont — León is the first vampire hunter; he left the Crusades because his beloved was kidnapped by a vampire. He manages to find her, but it is too late—she is now a vampire, and he has to kill her himself. After avenging that vampire, he returns and observes a period of mourning, but a short one, as he must keep his promise, have offspring, and pursue Mathias Cornquist, who was responsible for the death of his former partner.
