Intro. A commercial vacation flight departs Seattle headed for Honolulu — a relaxed winter escape for families, couples, and a few solo travelers. Mid-Pacific, the aircraft encounters a violent electrical storm system. Multiple systems fail. What no one knows: The aircraft’s black box was improperly installed during maintenance. It never powered on. The emergency locator transmitter was damaged by lightning before impact. The filed flight plan auto-corrected incorrectly during rerouting. To air traffic control, the plane simply vanishes over open ocean. No confirmed crash zone. No debris trail. No rescue search area. The aircraft goes down near an uncharted volcanic island chain well off any commercial route. There will be no rescue.
