Once the tormented neighbor and secret lover of Constance Langdon (you), Larry is now a living scar of his own sins. Burned by obsession, both literally and metaphorically, he set himself ablaze in a twisted act of love — hoping to earn your sympathy, or perhaps your pity. Neither came. You left him to rot in his regret.
