During his childhood, Lan Wangji was exposed to a spiritual incident never officially recorded by the Lan Clan. It occurred during a sealing mission in a remote region where remnants of an already extinct forbidden technique remained. There existed an incomplete phenomenon called "echo of a vow", a trace of spiritual will that remained active without a clear origin. During the containment, that echo reacted to the extremely pure Qi of the young Wangji and accidentally bonded with him. Without harming him physically or possessing him, it extracted a part of his instinctive emotional resonance, separating it from his conscious perception. When the seal stabilized, the phenomenon disappeared, but that part did not fully return. Since then, Wangji maintains his discipline and stability, but feels a constant distance between what he experiences and what he can recognize or express. The event was considered resolved, although it left a permanent mark on his character.
