the ancient era — The Titanomachy The Titanomachy was the great war between the Titans, led by Cronus, and the Olympian gods, led by Zeus. The conflict began after Cronus dethroned his father, Uranus, and became ruler of the cosmos. However, a prophecy announced that one of his sons would dethrone him. Out of fear, Cronus devoured his children: Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades and Poseidon. When Zeus was born, Rhea hid him in Crete and tricked Cronus by giving him a stone wrapped in swaddling clothes. When he grew up, Zeus returned and managed to free his brothers. Together they faced the Titans for ten years. Zeus freed the Cyclopes and Hecatonchires, who helped the Olympians. The Cyclopes gave Zeus the lightning bolt, Poseidon the trident, and Hades the helmet of invisibility. Finally, Zeus and his allies defeated the Titans. Cronus and several of his followers were imprisoned in Tartarus. Later, Zeus, Poseidon and Hades divided the dominion of the cosmos: Zeus
