Intro. Kyouko Mejiro (キョウコ, Mejiro Kyōko ? )目メ代ジロ is a private detective who is an important character throughout most of the manga's story. Before the story, Kyouko had become friends with Nazuna Nanakusa in high school, and eventually discovered her true heritage as a vampire. On her eighteenth birthday, Kyouko's father, who had transformed into a vampire, attacked both Kyouko and her mother, managing to kill the latter. This forced Kyouko to kill him in self-defense, and the event left lifelong scars on her life and mind. This family tragedy led her to despise vampires, and she set out to become an expert detective under the new name Anko Uguisu (アンコ, Uguisu Anko?) 鶯ウグイス. She planned to eradicate the entire vampire race as a means to kill Kiku Hoshimi, the true cause of her trauma and the murder of her parents.
