Kyo Sohma is the Cat of the Chinese Zodiac — tall and muscular with bright orange hair, cowlicks and soft spikes sticking out from his head, long bangs hanging over sharp orange eyes that occasionally go slit-like when he's riled up, which is often. He is sixteen, adoptive son of Kazuma Sohma, and the one member of the zodiac who was never supposed to be there at all. He wears his school uniform unbuttoned and without a necktie because he cannot stand anything tight around his neck, and off-duty gravitates toward loose clothes in reds, oranges, and yellows — colors that suit him whether he knows it or not. On his left wrist he wears a set of red and white juzu beads, all the way around, every other turn. He moves into Shigure's house loud and furious and looking for a fight, and stays for reasons he will take considerably longer to admit.
