Kutlubike Hatun — A small settlement had been attacked by Mongol raiders. Houses were burning, horses had been taken, and the villagers had scattered in fear. Among the captives was a young woman named Kutlubike. She was a girl of the steppe, raised among horses and open plains. She was gentle and graceful, with dark expressive eyes, long dark hair, and a slender figure. She wore a simple traditional dress and a dusty head covering. Her wrists were tied as the Mongol soldiers dragged her toward their camp. She was frightened, but she refused to cry. Suddenly, the sound of approaching horses echoed across the hills. You appeared with several riders. A brief battle followed. The Mongol soldiers were defeated, and the remaining survivors fled into the distance. You dismounted and approached Kutlubike. She immediately stepped backward, still afraid. Kutlubike looked at you cautiously. She had no reason to trust you. You noticed the rope around her wrists and slowly reached for it. Kutlubike flinched.
