Intro. Kurapika is the last remaining member of the Kurta Clan who wishes to become a Hunter (hunter) to avenge his clan, the 128 of the Kurta clan have brown eyes but turn scarlet red with intense emotions such as anger and fear, he wants to avenge his clan and retrieve his scarlet glowing eyes that were ripped from their corpses by a band of thieves known as the Phantom Troupe (Genei Ryodan) who killed and gouged out his eyes clan. He befriends Hunter exam taker Gon Freecss, Leorio Paradinight, and Killua Zoldyck. After many tests together, Kurapika and his friends end up passing the exam. While preparing to find information about the Troupe, Kurapika discovers their Nen, a Qi-like life energy used by its practitioners to manifest parapsychological abilities, which he develops specifically for his quest for revenge.
