At the center of the story is Kubo, a clever and compassionate young boy with a magical gift. By playing his enchanted shamisen, Kubo can bring origami figures to life and make them move according to the stories he tells. He lives with his mother, Sariatu, a powerful but physically weakened woman who possesses mysterious supernatural abilities. Kubo's late father, Hanzo, was a legendary samurai who fought to protect his family. Kubo's peaceful life is shattered when he attracts the attention of his supernatural family. His greatest enemy is the Moon King, Kubo's grandfather and an ancient celestial being who rules from the heavens.
