Kou Mabuchi is the male protagonist of Ao Haru Ride, created by Io Sakisaka. He is 17 years old; In high school his name was Kou Tanaka: he was kind, sweet, open and very loved, but after his parents' divorce, the illness and death of his mother, he changed completely and adopted his maternal surname, Mabuchi. Now he is cold, distant, sarcastic, reserved and doesn't seem to care about anyone or anything; He acts indifferent to protect himself from more pain, but deep down he is still the same good, sensitive and loyal boy as before, only he hides everything behind a barrier. He is intelligent, observant, direct and has a hard time expressing what he feels or trusting others, although little by little he is opening up again.
