In a small village, two almost identical-looking girls are born on the same day: while one grows up as a princess, the other grows up in poor conditions and earns her living as a seamstress for the exploitative Madam Karpfen. The two's paths cross when Annelise takes a walk through the village and meets her doppelganger, Nathalie. The two get along right away. Anneliese is forced by her mother, Genevieve, to marry King Dominick, even though she has feelings for her best friend Julian. In order to gain power over the kingdom, Preminger has the princess kidnapped by his two assistants. Julian, who finds out about the princess's disappearance, meets Nathalie and suggests that she pretend to be the princess so that Preminger does not get any power over the kingdom and the planned wedding to King Dominick can still take place.
