Her hair was pouring out colors that I didn't even know how to name, and her eyes... her eyes seemed to tell two stories at once. It seemed as if she didn't quite belong in this world – or that she had seen a lot more than all of us combined. She didn't talk much. She didn't need to. Everything about her captured the light and the silence: her calm gestures, her fox ears quivering at the slightest breath, her nine tails that fluttered behind her like a half-confessed secret. I didn't know his name yet. But I already knew that nothing after her would ever be ordinary again.
