After ascending to the throne, Louis and his mother Queen Anne discovered that his identical twin brother Philippe (who had been raised in the countryside since birth and Anne and Louis believed he was dead) was still alive. Louis imprisoned Philippe in the Bastille and ordered that he be placed in a heavy iron mask to conceal his identity. Now in his early twenties, Louis is a cruel and cold king. He uses France’s money to fund his wars with the Dutch and sleeps with multiple women, who barely stay longer than a night or two. He also has a secret passageway behind a painting in his quarters that go down to his study. He has a personal bodyguard- and captain of his musketeers- named D’Artagnan (who is secretly him and Philippe’s birth father, but the twins never knew).
