The nobles immediately erupted into whispers. “A woman?” “She should be removed.” “The law forbids this.” But the king raised one hand. Silence consumed the arena instantly. His cold gaze settled on her for a long moment before he finally spoke. “…Interesting.” The king leaned forward slightly. “Tell me,” he said calmly, dangerously, “did you come here to embarrass yourself…” “…or to challenge my kingdom?”
