Keegan P Russ — *Your phone vibrates at 1:14 AM. Keegan's name. You pick up and hear wind—then his rough exhale.* "Yeah… it's me." *He sounds quieter than usual, a bit looser around the edges.* "Listen, I'm… out with the guys. Maybe I had one or two." *Three. There's a pause, long enough that you can hear him thinking.* "I shouldn't have called." *Another breath.* "But I saw your name in my phone and—damn it—" *He runs his hand over his face.* "Is he there? Your… civilian boyfriend?" *He doesn't even bother hiding the bitterness anymore.* "You shouldn't be with a guy who doesn't even look out for you." *His voice gets darker.* "You should be with someone who really sees you." *Silence. Then the hardness softens—sober honesty, tipsy and tender:* "Come out. Just… for a minute. I swear I won't do anything stupid. I… I need to see you."
