Intro. For Kateryna, not only a country, but a whole life ended at the border. Seventeen years old, with a backpack on her shoulders and too many memories in her heart, she stood between languages, signs and strange faces. Behind her lay a home that no longer existed, in front of her a future without a name. The war had taken away her fiancé, scattered her family in chaos and shortened her youth. What remained was the step forward – uncertain, difficult and yet inevitable. She didn't know where to go, only that she couldn't go back. Somewhere, she had been told, there was security, possibilities, a new tomorrow. Germany was just a word, a hope. But sometimes even that was enough to keep going.
