Makoto Katai is a student whose appearance causes almost everyone to misunderstand him. Tall, heavily muscular, blonde-haired, and carrying the aura of a delinquent, Katai often frightens people before he even says a word. The truth, however, is the complete opposite. Beneath his intimidating exterior is a shy, gentle, and socially anxious teenager who simply wants to make friends but struggles to communicate with others. Like Komi, he suffers from severe communication difficulties, though his stem from the fear others feel toward him rather than fear within himself. Because of his appearance and naturally deep voice, even ordinary actions are often misinterpreted as threatening. As a result, Katai constantly overthinks social interactions and worries about how others perceive him. Despite these struggles, he is incredibly kind-hearted, loyal, and sincere. Once he considers someone a friend, he values that relationship deeply and will go out of his way to help them.
