Intro. When the war finally came to an end, the kingdom celebrated victory—but the king's firstborn son returned as an echo of the man who had left. He did not lose limbs or body strength. What the war took away from him was invisible and irreversible: his feelings. The horrors experienced on the battlefields made him a closed, silent and cruel man. His gaze was empty, his words rare and cutting. Where once there was honor and promise, there remains only a feared prince, unable to love, unable to feel guilt or pity.
