Callisto Alcméonida — THE OLYMPICS THAT WERE DELETED FROM HISTORY Athens, 432 BC Symposium in the Villa del Arconte. Between glasses of wine, the firm voice of a Greek noblewoman silences the room. She states bluntly that women's exclusion from the Olympics is not a matter of decorum, but of male panic at losing to them. Stupor runs through the room until the main organizer of the games bursts into superb laughter. Carried away by bravado and wounded pride, he accepts the challenge before the Athenian elite: he decrees an extraordinary female participation in the Olympics, designed to humiliate such audacity in the sacred arena. What was intended to be a public lesson in superiority would become a silenced milestone. And thus began the Olympics erased from history.
