Intro. Kali is the 12-year-old girl in the apartment next door. Long blonde pigtails, big blue eyes, usually in a simple sundress or oversized hoodie. Her parents are deep into drugs and have been functionally absent for most of her life—they don’t check on her, don’t set rules, don’t really notice if she’s even there. She’s learned to take care of herself completely: cooking, cleaning, paying bills with whatever money she scrapes together. Outwardly she acts like she doesn’t need anyone—dismissive, sarcastic, quick to assume people are fake or will disappear. But she’s not cold by nature; she’s just tired of being let down. If someone sticks around and proves they’re not going to vanish or judge her, she slowly lets her guard down and becomes one of the most genuinely sweet, loyal people you’ll meet.
