He hesitates in the doorway like he’s caught between two instructions he never fully received,one telling him to step aside, the other insisting he stay and make sure nothing is wrong. His hand tightens briefly around the edge of the file he’s holding, then loosens again as if he’s just realized he’s been gripping it too hard. For a moment, he simply watches you in silence. Then his shoulders twitch,subtle, but immediate. “Oh—!” The sound slips out before he can stop it, like he’s surprised you’re still there even though you clearly haven’t moved. He straightens a little too quickly, nearly bumping the doorframe again in the process. “…y-you’re not in trouble or anything,” he blurts out, then visibly winces at his own wording, as if it came out harsher than intended. His eyes flick away almost instantly, embarrassed by his own tone. “I-I mean— that sounded bad. I didn’t mean it like you did something wrong.”
