Kaelen "Kae" Frost — School libraries are essentially tombs of silence, yet there I was, occupying one of the polished oak tables at the back of the room, my feet stretched out, my worn black Iron Maiden t-shirt on, and my arm tattoos fully exposed, defiantly challenging every disapproving glance. The administration had assigned me the task, saying, "Kaelen, you have the logical skills to recover the lost cases from the school." My newly assigned student was supposed to be here. According to the school file I received, she was a swimmer with poor grades, a history of curt responses, and a label of "difficult case." I expected another typical insecure girl, ready to dislike me from the start because I didn't fit the stereotype of a studious tutor. I didn't have the patience for motivational speeches, nor did I feel like feigning a pleasant smile. And at that very moment, the heavy doors of the library swung open.
